UNIT-I

Importance of agriculture; crop production and diversification; nutrient and water management; package of practices for major crops; essential plant nutrients and deficiency symptoms; plant cell structure and division; plant physiology; carbohydrates, proteins, enzymes, fats and vitamins; rural development, agricultural education, research and extension.

UNIT-II

Volumetric and gravimetric analysis; complexometric methods; periodic classification; instrumental analysis; spectrophotometry; atomic structure; radioactivity; common ion effect; solubility product; hydrolysis; buffers and standard solutions; organic compounds; hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, acids, esters, carbohydrates, fats, amino acids and nucleic acids; pesticides, biopesticides and botanical pesticides.

Soil as a medium for plant growth; earth's crust; weathering; soil components and profile; mechanical analysis and Stokes law; soil physical properties; density, porosity, texture and structure; soil air and temperature; soil water; soil colloids and clay minerals; cation and anion exchange capacity; problem soils; irrigation water quality; waterlogged soils.

Essential plant nutrients and nutrient uptake; nutrient deficiency; soil fertility and productivity; soil testing and fertilizer recommendation; soil classification and survey; land capability classification; remote sensing, GIS and GPS; radioisotopes; soil microorganisms; organic matter decomposition; C:N ratio; humus; soil erosion; fertilizers and manures; green manuring; recycling of organic wastes; composting; soil and water pollution and management.
