UNIT-I

Importance of agriculture; crop production; major crops; soils and NPK; cell biology; mitosis and meiosis; genetics; photosynthesis, respiration and transpiration; carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids, enzymes and vitamins; major pests and diseases; rural development; agricultural research, education, extension and statistics.

UNIT-II

Layout and establishment of orchards; pruning and training; propagation; climatic requirements and cultivation of mango, banana, citrus, guava, grape, pineapple, papaya, apple, pear, peach and plum; plantation crops and spices; physiological disorders; tropical, subtropical and temperate vegetables; nursery raising; nutritive value; ripening physiology; fruit and vegetable products; diseases; commercial floriculture; lawns, trees, shrubs, creepers, hedges and annuals; garden types; crop improvement; male sterility and incompatibility; selection methods; heterosis; nutrient management; manures and fertilizers; irrigation; pest and disease management.
