UNIT-I
Classification and taxonomy of cultivable fishes, crustaceans and molluscs; freshwater, brackishwater and marine resources; ecosystems; population dynamics; fish stock assessment; conservation and management; fisheries legislation; law of the seas; overexploitation and climate change.
UNIT-II
Fish and shellfish reproduction and breeding; broodstock improvement; maturity and fecundity; induced spawning; seed production and rearing; eggs and larval development; fishpond preparation and management; cultivable species; exotic fishes; pen and cage culture; carp and shrimp hatcheries; biotechnology in fisheries.
UNIT-III
Limnological, oceanographical and biological parameters; productivity; environmental impact assessment; energy flow; community ecology; aquatic biodiversity and conservation; aquatic pollution and management.
UNIT-IV
Fishing crafts and gears; boat building materials; fibres and netting materials; net preservation; trammel net, purse seine, gill net and tuna long line; food chemistry and microbiology; fish preservation; fishery by-products; canning, packaging, processing and product development.
UNIT-V
Fishery economics; cooperatives; marketing and banking; hatchery and fish culture economics; profit maximization; cost and return estimation; WTO; IPR; international fish trade; fisheries extension; training; communication; modern extension tools; PRA and RRA; women in fisheries; statistics and computer science.
