Sub-Subjects: Veterinary Biotechnology and Veterinary Biochemistry.
UNIT-I
Prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells; cell wall and membranes; organelles; chromosome structure and functions; cell growth, division and differentiation; macromolecules and supramolecular systems; viruses, bacteriophages, ribosomes and membrane systems.
UNIT-II
Scope and importance of biochemistry in animal sciences; carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids, vitamins and hormones; enzymes; metabolic inhibitors; antibiotics and insecticides; biological oxidation; energy metabolism; colorimetry, spectrophotometry, chromatography and electrophoresis.
UNIT-III
Antigens and antibodies; immune reactions and assays; respiration and gas transport; water and electrolyte metabolism; deficiency diseases; metabolic disorders; clinical biochemistry; endocrine glands; hormones and mechanisms of action.
UNIT-IV
Molecular biology; biosynthesis of proteins and nucleic acids; genome organization; gene regulation; PCR; biotechnology applications in veterinary science; gene sequencing; immunodiagnostics; animal cell culture; in vitro fertilization; sub-unit vaccines; fermentation technology; stem cells and animal cloning.
